What Is a Couples Therapy Intensive?
If you've ever been in couples therapy and felt like you were just getting to the important part when the session ended, you're not alone.
Traditional couples therapy usually takes place in weekly 50–75 minute sessions. For many couples, that works well. But sometimes you need more time to get underneath a recurring conflict, understand what's happening between you, and practice something different.
That's where a couples therapy intensive can help.
A couples intensive provides a longer, protected block of time to slow things down and focus more deeply on your relationship. At The Therapy Collective, it's not simply a three-hour appointment, it's a complete package of care that begins before you arrive and continues afterward.
What Does a Couples Intensive Include?
Before your intensive, each partner completes relationship assessments individually. Kristen, TTC's founder and LMFT-Supervisor, reviews your assessments and intake history ahead of time so your session can be tailored to your relationship.
You'll then meet with Kristen for a three-hour, in-person intensive with a scheduled break. The extended time allows you to move beyond describing the problem and begin working with it, slowing down recurring conflict cycles, exploring what's underneath them, and practicing different ways of responding to each other.
Afterward, you'll receive a personalized relationship plan with the patterns identified, tools introduced, and next steps. You'll also return one to two weeks later for a 50-minute follow-up session to see what's working and adjust the plan as needed.
Some couples use the intensive as a standalone reset. Others choose ongoing therapy afterward. Continued therapy is always an option, never a requirement.
Who Might Benefit?
You don't have to wait until your relationship is in crisis.
An intensive may be helpful if you're having the same arguments repeatedly, feeling disconnected, working through unresolved hurt or a breach of trust, or simply struggling to make progress on your own. It can also work well for couples who want to invest intentionally in their relationship or find weekly appointments difficult to schedule.
Some couples come because something feels seriously wrong. Others come because they recognize something could be better.
Can Three Hours Fix a Relationship?
No, and that's not what an intensive promises.
Relationship patterns develop over time. What an intensive can offer is focused therapeutic momentum: more time to recognize the cycle you're caught in, understand each other's experiences, have difficult conversations differently, and develop a clearer path forward.
What Does It Cost?
The TTC Couples Intensive is a $900 flat investment that includes both partners' pre-intensive assessments, Kristen's clinical review and preparation, the three-hour in-person intensive, a personalized written relationship plan, and a 50-minute follow-up session.
Intensive or Weekly Couples Therapy?
Neither is inherently better. Weekly therapy allows you to work on your relationship over time, while an intensive creates a larger therapeutic window to focus deeply without having to stop just as you're getting somewhere.
And you don't have to know which one you need before reaching out.
