WHY AN INTENSIVE
Fifty minutes a week isn't always enough
Weekly couples therapy works — but it has a structure problem. By the time a difficult conversation opens up, the hour is over. The next week brings a new crisis, and the deeper pattern never gets addressed.
An intensive removes that ceiling. With three uninterrupted hours, there is room to slow down, follow a conflict all the way through, and repair it in the room rather than describing it afterward.

-
Depth over fragments. One continuous session instead of six disconnected ones.

-
Prepared, not exploratory. Assessments are reviewed before you arrive, so session one isn't intake.

-
A concrete outcome. You leave with a written relationship plan, not a vague sense of progress.

-
Scheduling that respects real life. A single afternoon rather than a standing weekly commitment.

WHAT'S INCLUDED
Five parts, one flat investment
The intensive is a complete package of care — not an hourly booking. Everything below is included in the $900 fee.
01
Pre-Intensive Assessments
Each partner completes structured relationship assessments individually before the session, giving an honest baseline of strengths, stressors, and areas of conflict.
02
Clinical Review & Preparation
Kristen personally reviews both assessments and your intake history, then builds a session plan tailored to your specific relationship dynamic before you walk in.
03
The 3-Hour Intensive
Three hours of focused, in-person couples work with a scheduled break — enough time to move through a real conflict cycle and practice something different.
04
Personalized Relationship Plan
A written treatment and relationship plan summarizing the patterns identified, the tools introduced, and clear next steps for the weeks ahead.
05
50-Minute Follow-Up
A follow-up session one to two weeks later to review what held, troubleshoot what didn't, and adjust the plan while the work is still fresh.
06
Continued Care, If You Want It
Some couples use the intensive as a standalone reset. Others continue with ongoing therapy at TTC or a referral within our clinical network — your choice, never a requirement.
HOW IT WORKS
From first call to follow-up
A clear, predictable process. You'll know exactly what happens at every stage — and whether an intensive is genuinely the right fit before you commit.

Intensives are scheduled in limited blocks each month to protect preparation time, so availability is intentionally narrow.
STEP ONE
Complimentary consultation call
Describe the team member here. Write a brief description of their role and responsibilities.
STEP TWO
Scheduling & assessments
Once your date is reserved, both partners complete the pre-intensive assessments and intake paperwork online.
STEP THREE
Preparation before you arrive
Kristen reviews everything and designs a session plan built around your specific dynamic and goals.
STEP FOUR
Your three-hour intensive
In-person, uninterrupted, with a scheduled break. Deep systemic work on the pattern underneath the arguments.
STEP FIVE
Plan delivery & follow-up
You receive your written relationship plan, then meet again one to two weeks later for a 50-minute follow-up.
WHO IT'S FOR
Built for couples at a decision point
Intensives suit partners who are motivated, willing to be honest, and ready to use a long block of time well.
-
Stuck in the same fight and want to understand the cycle rather than relitigate it.

-
Facing a decision about commitment, marriage, or separation and needing clarity.

-
Rebuilding after a rupture such as a breach of trust, and needing structured repair.

-
Short on calendar space — demanding careers, travel, young children, or long commutes.

-
Preparing for a transition like marriage, blending families, or a major relocation.

-
Restarting therapy after previous couples work stalled out.
WHEN IT'S NOT THE RIGHT FIT
Honest screening comes first
An intensive is a powerful format, but it isn't appropriate for every situation. During the consultation call, we screen carefully — and if a different level of care would serve you better, we'll say so and help you find it through our referral network.
-
Active intimate partner violence or safety concerns

-
Untreated substance dependence requiring stabilization first

-
Acute crisis needing a higher level of care

-
One partner attending under pressure rather than by choice

Clinician review & individualized session design
-
3-hour in-person intensive with a break

50-minute follow-up within 1–2 weeks
A deposit reserves your date and covers preparation time. Intensives are a private-pay specialty service; a superbill can be provided on request for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
Why the intensive is priced differently
This is not standard weekly couples therapy at a longer length. It is a specialty service delivered by a licensed marriage and family therapist-supervisor with two decades of clinical experience in couples and systemic work.

The fee reflects the full scope of care — assessment interpretation, individualized preparation before the session, three hours of concentrated clinical work, a written plan produced afterward, and a follow-up appointment.

Positioned intentionally: meaningfully differentiated from standard session-rate therapy, while remaining below the highest-priced intensive providers in the Austin market.
-
Experience-based, not associate-level. Delivered by Kristen Pierce, LMFT-S — not assigned to a rotating clinician.

-
Work happens outside the room, too. Preparation and plan-writing are part of the service.

-
Transparent and flat. You know the full cost before you book.

YOUR CLINICIAN
Kristen Pierce, LMFT-S
Kristen is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist-Supervisor with 20 years of clinical experience and extensive specialization in couples and systemic therapy. Her work focuses on the relationship itself — the patterns, cycles, and family-of-origin dynamics that keep two people repeating the same painful loop, even when both are trying.
As an LMFT-S, Kristen also trains and supervises other clinicians, which shapes how she works: structured, direct, and focused on giving couples something they can actually use rather than insight alone.
The Couples Intensive is a specialty service offered exclusively by Kristen at The Therapy Collective. It is not part of the standard TTC couples therapy offering, and it is not assigned to associate clinicians.
Looking for ongoing weekly couples or individual therapy instead? TTC will thoughtfully match you with a clinician whose experience and approach fit your goals.
Elevating the standard of mental health care one therapist, one client, and one relationship at a time.
